Children in Nigeria have in the last decade suffered from deteriorating security as more than 1,680 students were abducted during this period.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Nigeria said 60 teachers were also kidnapped in violent attacks on schools across the country.
Out of these incidents, 180 students and 14 staff members were killed by the gunmen in the northwest and terrorists in the northeastern region.
UNICEF representative Cristian Munduate expressed concern over the ongoing attacks on schools and emphasized the need for stricter safety measures in secondary schools to protect children.
