Nigeria will lay former President Muhammadu Buhari to rest on Tuesday, July 15, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Buhari passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His death has prompted nationwide mourning, with Monday declared a public holiday in his honour.

According to an official government statement, the late president’s remains will arrive in Nigeria by midday Tuesday, ahead of a state funeral scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and other top officials are accompanying the body from London, underscoring the significance of Buhari’s final journey and his enduring legacy in Nigeria’s political history.
