The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has clarified details surrounding an airstrike in Sokoto State that resulted in the deaths of at least 10 villagers.
Speaking at a media conference on Friday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that the casualties were caused by a secondary explosion rather than a direct hit from the Nigerian Airforce strike.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, targeted the Lakurawa terrorist group, known for terrorizing communities in Sokoto State. Unfortunately, the airstrike led to unintended collateral damage, with homes destroyed and several people injured, who are now receiving medical care at local health facilities.
The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to minimizing civilian casualties during military operations and emphasized the importance of defeating terrorist threats to restore peace in the region.
