Nigeria’s electoral reform debate has resurfaced in the Senate, with lawmakers split over the electronic transmission of election results, a key demand by civil society groups advocating greater transparency.

Discussions on amending the Electoral Act have continued for several years, especially after the 2023 general elections, as stakeholders push for clearer legal backing for technology-driven electoral processes.

The renewed debate centres on electronic accreditation and results transmission, which reform advocates say are critical to strengthening electoral credibility. Correspondent Yecenu Sasetu reports.
