Nigeria’s Senate has approved a bill establishing the Nigerian Mines Rangers Service, a new agency dedicated to tackling illegal mining and strengthening regulation of the country’s minerals sector.
Lawmakers say the specialized service will help secure mining sites, protect national resources, and ensure greater compliance with mining laws.
The move follows growing concerns about insecurity and unregulated operations that have cost the country billions in lost revenue and environmental damage.
