The Nigerian Senate has passed the second reading of a bill seeking to mandate the domestic processing of at least 30% of raw materials before export.

This proposed amendment to the Raw Materials Research and Development Council Act 2022 aims to enhance local production capabilities and protect domestic industries from foreign competition.

Advocates of the bill believe it will boost industrialization, create jobs, and retain value within Nigeria’s economy. Further debates and consultations are expected before its final passage.
