Nigerian troops have rescued twelve teenage girls abducted by suspected ISWAP militants in Borno State, offering a rare moment of relief amid rising insecurity in the country’s northeast. The operation was carried out by forces under Operation Hadin Kai in the Mussa District of Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The girls were taken by insurgents earlier in the week, continuing a troubling pattern of abductions that has devastated communities across the region. Their rescue comes as Nigeria deepens its security cooperation with the United States, following the launch of a new joint working group aimed at tackling terrorism, armed violence, and humanitarian challenges.
Although the successful mission has been widely welcomed, it also underscores the scale of Nigeria’s security crisis—one that continues to threaten lives, displace families, and strain the nation’s defence resources.
