Nigeria has restated its determination to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic as the nation joined the global community to mark World AIDS Day. At a national ceremony in Abuja, government officials, health partners, and advocates reflected on the progress made over the years while acknowledging persistent gaps in care and prevention.

Speakers noted that Nigeria has significantly expanded access to testing and treatment, resulting in improved outcomes for people living with HIV. However, challenges such as stigma, unequal access to services, and funding constraints continue to slow momentum.

The government emphasized that sustained political will, stronger health systems, and community-driven initiatives are critical to achieving an HIV-free generation. Officials also underscored the need for continuous collaboration with local and international partners to close remaining treatment and prevention gaps.

Nigeria says it remains firmly committed to ending the epidemic, protecting vulnerable groups, and ensuring no one is left behind in the national HIV response.
