Nigeria is advocating stronger continental collaboration on health security and sovereignty following deliberations at the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
The Nigerian delegation says reinforcing Africa’s health security architecture has become a strategic priority, particularly after recent global health emergencies exposed weaknesses in supply chains, financing systems, and local pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity.
Officials stress that reducing dependence on external partners and boosting domestic production of medical supplies are critical steps toward safeguarding the continent against future pandemics and health shocks.
They add that coordinated policy frameworks and sustained investment will be essential to building a resilient, self-reliant health system across Africa.
