Several Muslim worshippers have been killed and many others injured following a deadly explosion at a mosque in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria’s Borno State.
The attack, suspected to be a suicide bombing, occurred on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers at the Al-Alim Mosque, located in the busy Gomboru Market area.
Security sources say the explosion caused panic in the crowded area as emergency responders rushed victims to nearby hospitals.
The incident has renewed concerns about the persistent threat of terrorist violence in Nigeria’s North East, a region long affected by insurgency and insecurity.
