In Nigeria, UNICEF has unveiled a new socio-economic reintegration programme for children affected by the prolonged Boko Haram insurgency in the country’s northeast. The initiative was launched in Maiduguri, Borno State, by UNICEF Country Representative Wafaa Saeed.
According to a recent report by the agency, the region has suffered losses exceeding $10 billion due to the conflict, which has devastated livelihoods and disrupted education and economic activities.
UNICEF says the insurgency’s impact extends beyond infrastructure damage, deeply affecting family incomes and youth earning power.
The new programme seeks to provide psychosocial support, education, and livelihood opportunities to help restore stability and hope among conflict-affected children and their communities.
