Nigeria is reeling once again as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has released a revised and significantly higher headcount of those abducted during Friday’s attack on St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State.
According to CAN’s Niger State chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, a total of 315 people were seized—303 students and 12 teachers—after armed men stormed the school on more than 60 motorbikes. The update sharply contrasts with CAN’s earlier figure of 227 announced on Friday.
Yohanna also refuted claims by the Niger State government that school authorities were warned of a security threat and instructed to suspend classes ahead of the incident. Meanwhile, both state and federal authorities have yet to release any official figures, maintaining that joint security operations are underway to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
