The Federal Government of Nigeria has denied rumours of possible establishment of foreign military bases in the country.
The declaration followed mounting pressure from citizens, civil society groups and activists on the government never to allow military bases being expelled from the Sahelian countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to set up bases in Nigeria.
While this is not the first such speculations that have made rounds on mainstream and social media platforms, it is the first time for American and French embassies in Abuja to publicly debunk the claims.
