Voters in Kano, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory are heading to the polls today, February 21, to elect local government chairmen and councillors.
In Abuja, electorates are casting their ballots across the six Area Councils — Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali — with more than 2,800 polling units participating in the exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, social media reports indicate that several polling stations commenced operations late due to delays in the arrival of voting materials and electoral staff. The previous chairmanship and councillorship elections in the affected states were held in 2022.
On the eve of the polls, President Bola Tinubu urged peaceful and orderly conduct, calling on voters, security agencies and electoral officials to act responsibly and uphold democratic values.
