Civil society groups in Nigeria are calling for a new tax regime that would ensure the super-rich pay super tax as against enjoying tax waivers at the expense of the poor, as world leaders head to Davos for the 2024 World Economic Forum and amidst the widening gap between the rich and the poor in Africa,
The call was made at the public presentation of a report by OXFAM, a British-founded confederation of 21 independent charitable organizations, focusing on the alleviation of global poverty.
It revealed that Africa’s seven richest individuals have been found to enjoy more wealth than the poorest half of the continent’s population, totaling 350 million people.
