In Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS) has filed terrorism charges against two senior leaders of the Ansaru group, an Al-Qaeda affiliate.
The suspects, identified as Commander Mahmud Usman and his deputy, Mahmud Al-Nigeri, were recently arrested in nationwide security operations. They face accusations of leading a terrorist organisation, financing its activities, recruiting members, and plotting violent attacks.
Their arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja is expected soon, just weeks after National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu confirmed their capture. Usman is described as the mastermind behind high-profile kidnappings and robberies that funded terrorism.
