The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a new directive requiring all airlines to enforce a complete shutdown of mobile phones and electronic devices during takeoff and landing. The decision replaces the long-standing practice of allowing passengers to use airplane mode while in flight.

Announcing the policy in Abuja on Wednesday, NCAA Director-General Captain Chris Najomo instructed airlines to update their operations manuals to comply with the new regulation.

The directive has triggered mixed reactions among aviation experts and passengers, with some questioning the rationale behind the sudden change. Others argue that stricter safety measures are necessary in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
