Nigeria’s military has firmly rejected allegations by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting a genocide against Christians in the country. Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, dismissed the claims after a security chiefs’ meeting in Abuja, stressing that Nigeria’s instability stems from terrorism, banditry, and criminal violence—not religious persecution.

General Oluyede reiterated that the armed forces remain committed to restoring security nationwide and are open to constructive international partnerships to combat extremist threats.

He emphasized that framing the crisis as religious only distorts the realities on the ground and undermines efforts to address the country’s complex security challenges.
