In Nigeria’s Kebbi State, security forces are intensifying efforts to rescue over 20 schoolgirls abducted from a boarding school earlier this week. The attack, carried out by armed bandits, also claimed the life of a teacher during a violent incursion on Monday.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the safe recovery of the students and their return to their families. Authorities say the attackers gained entry to the school after a gunfight with a police officer stationed on the premises.
International organizations, including UNICEF, have joined calls for the immediate release of the kidnapped girls, stressing the urgent need to protect children from ongoing security threats in the region.
The search operation involves military and police units working to track the abductors, with communities anxiously awaiting updates on the fate of the students.
