In Niger, the recent arrest of several journalists — including three placed in custody — is drawing growing criticism.
The Union of Journalists for a Free African Press (UJPLA) has strongly condemned the detentions, describing them as a clear restriction on press freedom.
UJPLA’s vice president, Josué Blaise Mbanga Kack, told WADR that the arrests undermine media independence and create a climate of fear for journalists across the country.
