Authorities in Niger have announced plans to repatriate over 4,000 migrants expelled from Algeria and Libya. The government says the operation will be conducted with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Most of the migrants are sub-Saharan Africans who were forced into Niger and are now stranded in the border town of Assamaka, facing dire humanitarian conditions.
Officials say the move is intended to prevent a full-blown crisis, as local resources in Assamaka are stretched thin.
Repatriation efforts will focus on restoring safety and dignity for those affected, while also addressing the strain on host communities.
