It is almost a year since the military took power after overthrowing the government of Mouhamed Bazoum in Niger

People are already starting to take stock. In the streets of Niamey, opinions differ.

While some appreciate the actions taken by General Abdourahamane Tiani, others remain unsatisfied with the security situation in the country.

According to the secretary general of the African Convention for a Fair Society, Abdoulaye Moumouni, the military authorities must address the bad practices that existed under Mouhamed Bazoum.

In the analysis of Bounty Diallo, an analyst on security issues, the authorities have failed to address the deteriorating security situation, which was one of the reasons given by the military to justify their takeover.

General Abdourahamane Tiani, the head of the presidential guard under Bazoum, proclaimed himself the country’s new leader on Friday, July 28, 2023.
