Niger has taken a significant step toward enhancing its identity systems by signing two key agreements with Libyan company Al Itissan Al-Jadeed. The deals aim to modernize the country’s biometric passport and national identity card systems.
Niger’s Minister of State for the Interior, General Mohamed Toumba, inked the agreements with company director Wissal Samtali. The first deal focuses on the development and maintenance of a secure, electronic polycarbonate passport system, complete with digital archiving.
The second agreement covers the issuance of a new, biometric national identity card designed to meet global security standards. Both agreements fall under a public-private partnership model.
These modernization efforts reflect Niger’s push for secure and efficient citizen documentation as part of its broader digital transformation and national security strategy.
