Niger has established a new public institution, the National Institute of Diplomatic and Strategic Studies (INEDS), marking a major step in strengthening the country’s diplomatic and strategic capacity. The institute was officially created on Friday, January 23, 2026, as a scientific, cultural, and technical public establishment.
The creation of INEDS responds to the long-standing absence of a national school dedicated to the professional training and capacity building of diplomatic and consular staff in Niger. Authorities say the institute will fill a critical institutional gap in the country’s foreign service system.
According to a government press release, INEDS will provide induction training for newly recruited diplomats and advanced professional training for active members of the diplomatic corps. It will also support continuous learning and specialization in diplomatic and strategic studies.
Beyond the foreign service, the institute will also train personnel from other public and private institutions operating in international environments, positioning INEDS as a national hub for diplomatic, strategic, and international affairs capacity building.
