Political and diplomatic relations between Benin and Niger have deteriorated, leading to a decision by the government headed by General Abdourahamane Tiani,
The government of Niger has terminated the activities of its honorary consul in Benin.
According to a decree issued by the Nigerien Minister of Foreign Affairs, this measure is justified by the need to provide service and specifically concerns the honorary consul in Parakou, a town in northern Benin.
The decision comes as Benin applies ECOWAS sanctions against Niger following the coup on July 26, 2023.
Niger has stopped the activities of its diplomatic representatives in 20 countries, including six in Africa.
