Niger’s transitional government has ordered the dissolution of 400 private security companies as part of a sweeping reform of the sector.

The directive, issued by Interior Minister Major General Mohamed Toumba, seeks to reassert state control over security operations, which authorities say have become vulnerable to exploitation and malpractice.

Officials stress that the move is not targeted at individual companies but reflects a broader strategy to address systemic weaknesses and restore confidence in national security management.
