Niger’s leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, has reaffirmed that the country’s border with Benin will remain closed as he concluded a tour of key regions over the weekend. His visits took him to Gaya, Tahoua, and Dosso, where he met with local authorities and communities affected by ongoing security threats.
During the tour, General Tiani emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening security operations across the country. He also used the opportunity to reassure citizens that the state remains fully engaged in supporting efforts to curb terrorism and other armed activities destabilizing the region.
The head of state met with soldiers stationed along major corridors, praising their resilience and dedication in confronting groups operating across Niger’s borders. He reiterated that their role remains central to restoring stability and protecting vulnerable communities.
Speaking in Gaya, General Tiani addressed rising public interest in the status of the Benin border. He made it clear that the closure will remain in place until further notice, stressing that national security considerations continue to guide the government’s decision.
