Niger Frees Former Petroleum Minister After 11 Months

Former Nigerien Minister of Petroleum, Mahaman Moustapha Barké, has been released after nearly 12 months in detention.

Barké was arrested in early January 2025 and was freed two days ago, according to local sources.

Authorities have not issued any official statement explaining the reasons for his arrest or prolonged detention.

No details have also been provided regarding the circumstances surrounding his release.
