Niger has secured 17 billion CFA francs in financing from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to support its efforts in the African Union’s Great Green Wall project. The agreement, signed in Niamey, aims to combat desertification and restore degraded lands.
The funds will help restore over 265,000 hectares of land, establish more than 700 community nurseries, and train 1,000 local groups in sustainable land management.
Niger’s Minister of Justice, Alio Daouda, and FAO’s interim representative Genot Luc officiated the signing.
This partnership strengthens Niger’s role in tackling climate change and promoting food security in the Sahel.
