In the aftermath of the deadly floods in Mokwa, Niger State, Ibrahim Hussaini, Director of Information and Special Duties at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), has shared insights into ongoing response efforts.
Speaking to WADR, Hussaini highlighted that Mokwa’s unique position—an agrarian community and vital transit link between northern and southern Nigeria—compounds the impact of the disaster. Its location at the confluence of the Niger and Kaduna Rivers leaves it highly vulnerable to flooding.
He detailed that the state is prioritizing shelter, clean water, and food aid as immediate needs, while longer-term plans involve rebuilding infrastructure and restoring livelihoods. Hussaini emphasized the government’s commitment to helping residents get back on their feet through targeted support and community-based recovery initiatives.
