Niger and Chad have pledged to strengthen cooperation across key sectors following a high-level meeting between Niger’s transitional President Abdourahamane Tiani and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno in Niamey.
The leaders agreed to boost coordination between their defense forces, especially in the Lake Chad Basin, to address shared security threats.
On the economic front, Niger will supply diesel to Chad, pending final customs arrangements, while both countries advance infrastructure projects, including fiber optic interconnection and joint access to submarine cables.
They also reaffirmed plans to collaborate on the 5,200 MW Salkadamna energy project and introduced visa exemptions and residency facilitation for citizens of both countries.
