In Agadez, northern Niger, three journalists from Sahara FM were arrested twice within a week for allegedly spreading false information about Niger’s intelligence ties with Russia and Turkey.
Though an investigative judge initially ordered their release, security forces rearrested the reporters shortly after, questioning them again on the same news report.
No new evidence has been presented, but the case may now be reassigned to another judge.
Air Info’s Director General, Abdourahmane Manzo, has condemned the arrests, warning of growing threats to press freedom in the country.
