In Niger, the army says it has foiled an attempted attack on an oil installation in the Diffa region in the south-east of the country.
According to the military, the operation prevented significant damage to the strategic site, which has been a target of armed groups operating in the area. Security forces reportedly intercepted the attackers before they could carry out their plan.
In a separate but related development, authorities announced the seizure of a large cache of weapons and the dismantling of a supply network accused of providing arms to jihadist groups.
The military says the operations form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and disrupt the logistics chains of armed groups in the region.
