Niger and Libya are joining forces to combat cross-border crimes mainly against vulnerable people.’

General Mohamed al-Haddad, Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Army, met with his Nigerien counterpart to discuss the deteriorating security situation along their common border.

The primary focus of the talks was to tackle the increasing attacks carried out by armed bandits operating from Libyan territory.

Irregular migration was also a key topic of discussion.

The visit comes at a time when both Niger and Libya are grappling with the influx of migrants seeking to reach Europe.
