Niger and Chad have taken a major step toward deepening bilateral relations, following a state visit by Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno to Niamey.

President Déby Itno and Nigerien leader General Abdulrahman Tiani held two days of talks, culminating in a series of agreements focused on multisectoral cooperation. Key areas include enhanced security collaboration in the Lake Chad Basin, economic development, and the joint Salkadamna energy project.

The two nations also agreed on a visa exemption to improve the mobility of their citizens and committed to stronger diplomatic engagement through an active joint commission.

President Déby Itno reaffirmed Chad’s support for Niger’s political transition and sovereignty, with the next high-level meeting expected to take place in N’Djamena.
