A new political group in Mali is calling for a swift return to constitutional rule. The Patriotic Resistance Front (RPF) was launched over the weekend by businessman and exiled politician Aliou Diallo, who strongly condemned the ruling junta’s recent actions.
Diallo accused the transitional authorities of undermining democracy by dissolving political parties and clamping down on dissent. He urged Malians to mobilize peacefully and resist the erosion of civil liberties.
The RPF says it will work with other democratic forces to restore legitimate governance and protect the political rights of all Malians. It has also called for greater international attention to the worsening political situation in the country.
Mali has been under military rule since 2020. Despite repeated promises to transition back to civilian government, delays and controversial decisions by the junta have sparked growing frustration at home and abroad.
