Morocco has taken another major step toward transforming its healthcare and medical education landscape.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, King Mohammed VI officially inaugurated the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex in Rabat, a world-class medical and university institution designed to serve as a benchmark for healthcare in Africa and beyond.
Developed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, the new complex reflects the King’s vision of ensuring equitable access to advanced healthcare and high-level medical training across the Kingdom.
Built over a 280,000-square-meter site, the facility includes the Mohammed VI International University Hospital, covering 190,000 m², and the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health, spread over 90,000 m².
The hospital begins operations with 600 beds, expandable to 1,000, and features more than 30 medical and surgical departments, 24 operating rooms, including robotic ones and 143 critical care beds.
The university side of the complex will host up to 8,000 students across six faculties and specialized schools. It includes a state-of-the-art medical simulation center, designed to improve practical learning and help train the next generation of African healthcare professionals.
Environmentally, the complex has been certified High Environmental Quality (exceptional level). More than 8,800 square meters of solar panels provide over 10% of its energy needs, cutting carbon emissions by about 40%.
During the inauguration, the King also gave the green light for the commissioning of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, a complementary project aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the Souss-Massa region.
