In a dramatic move, Minority Members of Parliament in Ghana staged a walkout from Parliament and besieged the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to protest the detention of Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.
Antwi-Boasiako is under investigation for alleged financial loss to the state. Though granted bail set at GH¢50 million with two sureties—both to be justified—he remains in custody, having not yet met the conditions.
NPP MPs argue the bail terms are excessive and politically driven, accusing EOCO of targeting their colleague unfairly. Their protest has drawn both public attention and political criticism.
Meanwhile, the ruling NDC has slammed the walkout as lawless and a direct affront to the legal process. The standoff underscores mounting political tensions ahead of the upcoming election season.
