In the East African nation of Uganda, millions of voters will go to the polls today to elect a president and members of parliament.
Incumbent, Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled the country for four decades, is seeking re-election.
Seven other candidates, including opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, are in the race for the top job.
Ahead of the elections, the government announced the suspension of 10 non-governmental organisations and imposed restrictions on internet access.
The Communication Regulatory Commission said the suspension, which began on Tuesday, was among others intended to safeguard public safety.
However, the United Nations, in a statement on Wednesday, described these developments as worrying.
