Normal operations have resumed at the Loulo-Gounkoto gold mine in Mali’s western region following a completed agreement between the Malian government and Canadian company Barrick Mining Corporation. The resolution ends a period of suspended activity at one of the country’s significant mining sites.
Over the weekend, the government issued a decree renewing the mining permit for the Kayes region site for an additional ten years. The extended permit provides operational certainty for the mine’s continued contribution to Mali’s extractive sector.
The agreement marks a renewed partnership between Bamako and the international mining firm. Both parties have aligned on terms allowing the mine to restart full-scale production activities.
The resumption bolsters Mali’s mining output and reinforces the sector’s role in national revenue generation. Loulo-Gounkoto’s return to normal operations supports local employment and economic activity in the western region.
