In Mali, journalist Alfousseini Togo is facing an eight-month suspended prison term and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs.
The editor of Le Canard de la Venise was sentenced on Monday by the anti-cybercrime judicial unit, for undermining the credibility of the state.
His charges stemmed from an article he published in early April, in which he questioned statements made by Mali’s Minister of Justice, Mamoudou Kassogué.
Appearing before the court, Journalist Alfousseini Togo admitted to the charges in an effort to avoid returning to prison, an admission that led to the suspended sentence.
