On 18 January 2024, the fate of a former head of the Islamic police in Timbuktu Al Hassan Ag Mahmoud will be decided at the International Criminal Court.
Mahmoud is on trial for his alleged involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity during the occupation of the town of Timbuktu in northern Mali by violent extremist groups.
