In Mali, the public prosecutor has requested a five-year prison sentence for journalist Youssouf Sissoko following his trial.
Authorities are also seeking a 10-year suspension of his newspaper, L’Alternance.
Sissoko faces charges over an article that criticized Niger’s Transitional President Abdourahamane Tiani after the February attack on Niamey’s airport.
The case has drawn attention to press freedom and the challenges journalists face in Mali.
