Mali’s High Authority for Communication (HAC) has issued a stern warning to media outlets over what it describes as escalating defamatory attacks on state representatives. The regulator says such remarks undermine public institutions and violate ethical standards governing responsible journalism.

According to the HAC, state officials acting in the interest of the nation deserve scrutiny, but criticism must remain factual and respectful. The body stressed the need for media practitioners to uphold professionalism, avoid inflammatory commentary, and ensure balanced reporting.

The warning comes at a time when tensions between the press and public authorities remain delicate, with the HAC urging journalists to prioritise accuracy and national cohesion.
