Mali is facing a deepening crisis as terrorist attacks continue to target fuel tanker trucks supplying the capital, Bamako. For nearly two months, these assaults have resulted in severe fuel shortages, worsening the country’s already fragile economic situation.
According to Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop, the JNIM terrorist group has adopted this “economic warfare” strategy to weaken the state and cripple national systems. The escalation marks a troubling shift in the tactics used by armed groups in the region.
As the security situation deteriorates, regional voices are calling for urgent intervention. A former Senegalese minister has urged neighboring countries to come together and prevent Mali from sliding further into instability.
These appeals highlight growing fears that, without stronger regional solidarity, large parts of Mali could fall under extremist control.
