Former Prime Minister Moussa Mara has spent a month in detention following his arrest on August 1 on charges of undermining state credibility and opposing legitimate authority.
Authorities say the charges stem from a social media post in which Mara vowed to fight “by all means” for “the sun” to replace “the night,” a statement interpreted as subversive.
His trial is scheduled for later this month, with family members, civil society leaders, and international supporters continuing to call for his release.
Amnesty International and other rights groups have voiced concern over shrinking freedoms and rising political repression under Mali’s transitional government.
