Mali’s transitional government has approved a revised 2025 budget, reallocating over 157.1 billion CFA francs to defense and security operations amid delayed elections.

Authorities say the move aims to strengthen the armed forces and improve security services as the country battles rising instability.

However, questions remain about the effectiveness of current strategies and the challenges confronting the fight against insecurity.

Security analyst Seidick Abba says lasting peace will require not only military investment but also political dialogue and regional cooperation.
