President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a new Governing Council for the Ghana Police Service, appointing Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as its Chairperson. Her appointment marks a historic first, as she becomes the first woman to lead the Council.
The swearing-in ceremony, held in Accra, saw President Mahama charge the Council to uphold discipline, fairness, and transparency within the service. He emphasized the need for accountability and public trust in law enforcement.
Established under Article 201 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, the Council is responsible for guiding the police service in maintaining professionalism and ethical conduct across its operations.
With national security and human rights under increasing scrutiny, the new Council is expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping the image and effectiveness of the Ghana Police Service.
