The Association of Rubber Sector Actors in Liberia has announced plans to stage a mass protest this week against the imposition of an Executive Order banning the importation of unprocessed rubber by former President George Weah.
This action comes after the December 2023 implementation of the ban, which Weah justified as a means to stimulate domestic production and manufacturing within the country.*
However, the Chairman of the group, James Sikah, contests these claims, asserting that the ban negatively impacts the sector and endangers the livelihoods of its members and their families.
