Liberia’s Gender Minister Gbeme Horace Kollie has expressed alarm over a rising wave of gender-based violence in the country, especially affecting women and children.
Speaking on a Monrovia radio station, the minister revealed that 40 cases were reported to a newly established ministry call center between December 2024 and now.
She blamed a growing culture of “family compromise,” where communities often downplay or ignore serious abuses like rape.
Minister Kollie called for urgent cultural change and stronger accountability to tackle this disturbing trend.
